After our room was refurbished, my mother in law bought new set of curtains for our windows. Then the following month, she again purchased another set. She also purchased curtains for the den and kitchen aside from the bedroom. I told my wife lightheartedly that her mother is a skilled curtain addict; that when time comes, our home will be full of curtains.
Actually, all sets of the curtains she bought were beautiful and jive well with the wall colors. The only setback was the ones set up in the kitchen. In spite of its lovely design, it makes the kitchen darker and a little dull. So I tried looking at the mall for a substitute and found a unique window treatment ideas and it is the use of tailored window valances.
Valances are similar to mini-curtains because they do not cover the entire window. I purchased a lavender double-layered valance with upturned pleats that radiate a neat tailored work. It also has beautiful bow and button detailing. At first, I was bothered that my mother in law would not like it, but the instant I illustrated it to her; she immediately removed the kitchen curtains and replaced it with the new valances. The windows in the living room have pink scallop-style valances with stripes and tassels.
